Drawing from Observation
Increase your realistic drawing skills by learning how to really see! Imagine the fun and satisfaction of actually being able to draw objects that look so real you could pick them up, or recreating a scene that you could walk through, or even capturing the exact likeness of a person. Acquiring such accurate drawing skills actually begins with a new way of seeing.

This course is designed to enhance the student's naturalistic drawing skills by following a specific series of exercises, observational studies, and finished drawings. Students will be introduced to the fundamental drawing concepts of line, value, proportion, perspective, and compositional design using a variety of media including pencil, charcoal and pastel.

By the end of the course students should have a better understanding of how to draw and shade all basic forms, create a convincing sense of depth and three-dimensional space, and sketch the proportions of the human face and figure.

This course is designed for the more serious art student with a love for drawing.
All materials will be provided. Student is responsible for own snack and drink.

In addition to providing a large working space, a wide variety of scrapbooking tools and supplies, and the fun of working alongside others, this course is designed to also teach kids some basic design skills to create a more sophisticated approach to scrapbooking,. No more scrapbooking that looks like a little kid did it!

Basic concepts covered will include devising color schemes that enhance the photos; cropping photos; developing layout themes; learning how to create headings and captions on the computer using a variety of fonts and colors; experimenting with a variety of creative embellishments such as stamping, dry embossing, heat embossing, punches, and die cut lettering,; learning how to scan and digitally alter a photo; and lastly, how to organize all the thematic page elements in an aesthetically pleasing final layout.

Sew Creative!
Now you can create art that is also wearable and useful using fabric as your medium and creativity as your guide. Students will have the opportunity to experiment with various fabric surface treatment techniques such as hand dyeing, printmaking, and photo transfer. These unique fabric creations may then be used to design and sew their class projects such as pj's, a pillow, a purse, and a lap quilt.

Equal attention will be given to developing both, the artistic design skills and the technical (beginner level) sewing machine skills. Sewing concepts and techniques that will be explored will include operating a sewing machine; hand stitching and appliqué; quilting; and adding embellishments. Students will also explore color theory and will be stepped through a design process for inventing their own quilt pattern.

If possible, it is recommended that students bring in their own portable sewing machines to avoid having to share workstations.

While many supplies will be provided students will need to purchase own fabric. Student is responsible for own snack and drink.
