The Artist: Debra Lee Valeri |
Since graduating from Rhode Island School of Design in 1982
with a BFA in Illustration, Debra Lee Valeri has demonstrated
much versatility working as both a fine artist and commercial
artist. For many years she painted portraits and landscapes
while working either freelance or full-time as an illustrator.
Eventually her love of teaching led her to persue a MA Teaching
Certificate to teach at the high school level. She has taught
art at various high schools and taught Illustration for several
summers at RISD Summer Sessions.
Her fine art media of choice are oil, pastel, and watercolor,
the emphasis of which varies throughout her career. She has
recently expanded her creative endeavors to include painting
in the digital realm, creating custom portraiture, landscapes,
and illustration.
Outdoor subject matter usually involves local southcoast landscapes
(specifically Westport MA and Tiverton, RI) and flowers from
her garden. Her children's
portraiture portfolio includes her popular specialized portraits
of children playing at the shoreline, playing sports, and dancing
as well as her traditional classic portraits.
Currently, she works as a full-time artist and teaches privately
out of her newly built studio in Westport, Massachusetts.
